Money worries on ssp

Hi I'm.new here and very lost so not sure if there's any help. My husband has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and we have been told they are unable to operate as there is some spread to liver and lungs. So chemotherapy is the only option. Obviously absolutely horrendous time but he is absolutely worrying about surviving on ssp as we don't know how long this could go on for. I work but don't earn as much as him and the ssp is a truly dramatic drop compared to his earnings,is there really any financial help out there?
