Prostate Cancer

Hi I'm new here.

My Partner has just been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer it is very early stages and it is slow growing he is to have a 5 days course of radiotherapy and its a 90% change success rate and its curable.

We are due to fly out to majorca on 1/5/24 for 7 nights and his consultant has said that he can't see anything changing much if at all in that time if he was to take the holiday and to go if he wants to. Its obviously playing on my partners mind as they have to be positive in what they saying but he needs reassurance I think with someone that has gone through similar.

Has anyone been in the similar position and taken a holiday before treatment?

Thanks in advance.

  • My partner and I went on a cruise before he started chemotherapy for the same reason as yours. The only difference is the grading of my partner's is a grade 3.

He couldn't get travel insurance due to his diagnosis, therefore we had to miss off the prostate cancer diagnosis to get it (as it's compulsory to have travel insurance on a cruise) I'm so glad that we did this as it took his mind off the diagnosis. He started chemotherapy the week after the cruise and he's just finished the full course of 6. We know that my partner's prostate cancer isn't curable, but at least it's manageable. Enjoy your holiday and best of luck to your partner x

  • Thank you so much for that.

I am hoping when he speaks to the nurse tomorrow they will reassure him to take the holiday beforehand.

Yes I am thinking of also leaving off the diagnosis it's so expensive too and with him being in very early stage I think it won't matter that much. I really hope you enjoyed your cruise.

Sending lots of positive thoughts to you and your husband x
