Holiday entitlement /carry over

Hi, I work in the nhs so I get 6months full pay plus 6months half pay.
I've been hassled by work to come off sick and take annual leave and then go back on the sick. But now I'm claiming some benefit this doesn't allow. Plus I'm not having a jolly holiday time I'm recovering from Ca-

my dad died in May so I've been off sorting funeral estate , probate house emptying . Sale etc etc then dIscovered lump which was Breast cancer I've had surgery+chemo+ radiotherapy. So not an easy ride these last 10months.

I've been told I can only carry a portion of my annual leave over and will loose 58hours. I've asked to be paid for the 58hours but not looking hopeful

My supportive sister suggested I should be happy as I've been paid whilst being off sick -she doesn't. But only asking as work money stops and I've got no income after my years up.
can anyone advice ??  Or have gone through similar.

  • Hi Efffie,

I'm sorry you're under pressure to come off sick leave to use up annual leave and for the conflict this may cause with your benefits.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon but if you haven't done so already it may be worth giving Macmillan a call as their financial advisers may be able to help and let you know what your employment rights are and how it would affect your benefits.

Do be sure to have a look through your contract and possibly get in touch with Citizen's Advice as well.

I hope this helps Efffie and you're able to get this resolved soon.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
