Fantastic Travel Insurance

Just popped in to say that we got a fantastic quote, and excellent customer service from Insurancewith, they have a much more thorough medical screening, which is more personalised than other companies. Our quote was only a little more than it usually is, even after my husbands stage four cancer last year. This means we now have something to look forward to this year, a cruise! Highly recommend for anyone who has any medical history, the company was founded by a lovely lady called Fiona, who herself had cancer and wanted to find a way to make travel more affordable for people going through the same.

  • This is a fantastic tip Daisy171 which I am sure other members of our forum who are currently struggling to find a good quote will be grateful for!

A cruise? Now that is something incredible to look forward to! I hope you will explore some marvellous destinations in all sorts of sunny places.

    Have a pleasant trip!

  • Hi Daisy,

I came across this information thank you. It sounds like you and your husband are doing well which I'm delighted to hear. The info on insurance is very helpful. I don't know if you recall but my husband was diagnosed with OC in October 2020 and after the long and very winding journey with some extra complications thrown in he is doing well.
Could you please advise if the insurance covered his cancer too?

    Still keeping the faith

  • Thanks for sharing, I’ve used them in the padt (pre-Covid) and the service was great even when we made a claim.

  • Hi Milly! Thank you for your kind comments, yes, my husband is amazingly in full remission, from diagnosis of stage four inoperable and incurable cancer in November 2020, to 'its all gone' in June 2021!
He was just really lucky, and we feel the Trastuzumab played a huge part alongside the chemotherapy.
I am over the moon to hear your husband is also still ok, you must feel like we do, what a whirlwind of emotions!

Our policy was £300, for 14 nights, for four people, including my husband, his cancer, cruise cover, and covid extra cover. Which I think is fantastic. They currently have 20% off too for anyone thinking of booking a well deserved trip. I have never been so excited to pay for insurance!

  • This is great to hear Dave, and happy to hear you are still well too!

  • Hi Daisy

Wow that is truly fantastic news to hear. It gives so much hope to those going through a similar situation.

My husband became critically ill a week after the op with internal bleeding and nearly died. They saved his life but after he was ventilated he developed pneumonia which then caused a pleural effusion which developed into pleural empyema. He had the Oesophagectomy, was opened back up a week later and was in ICU for two weeks, HDU for 2 weeks the general ward for a week and was in a wheelchair. He came home for 3 weeks to try to regain some strength and then had a 3rd emergency operation to free his left lung. So 3 major operations in eight weeks! Five weeks after the last op he started  8 weeks of post op chemo which he completed. Exactly a year to the day of diagnosis he was given the wonderful news that he was visibly cancer free. They got it all with good margins and no lymph nodes (they removed 37) were positive. It's absolutely remarkable after all he went through. Our NHS are brilliant and the surgeon said to Kev it was his fitness and determination that has got him through life threatening situations. We went to the Peak District last week and we went up Mam Tor.

We have booked a couple of holiday and the insurance we have will cover everything apart from the OC. However fingers crosssed that isn't applicable now.  This insurance sounds really good!

Nice to hear Dave is doing well too.

  • Goodness me you really did go through a lot! And through a pandemic too. Its incredible how much we cope with when its the only choice we have. I have felt quite emotional lately though, just feel like it catches up with me, and also feel bad for those whose family haven't been as lucky. And worried it will come back....

Am glad younhave some holidays planned, and that you managed Mam Tor! That's incredible! Have only done that once when I was on a school trip

  • Hi Daisy,

I get what you are saying on all those feelings. It's hard to explain to others how hard it's been.

Sadly, we have already experienced tragedy in our lives. My mum died aged 51 - 10 months after diagnosis from Breast Cancer. Our 3rd son Christopher died aged 3 and half months - born normally - but became critically ill at just 3 days old. It was very complicated and a real  roller coaster as he came home aged 9 and half weeks but became ill again and was in out of hospital. He died in my arms after being taken off life support. Still very hard to comprehend as we still don't know what actually caused the initial illness. We know what he developed  but not why. A year later my mum in law died aged 68.

So we have always been of the mind that 'you do what you can while you can'. We have always prioritised doing things over 'stuff'. We have been on a few cruises and if you haven't been on one before you are all in for a real treat. Where are you going? We've done the Med, the Adriatic, Alaska, the Caribbean and South America which included the Panama Canal and Cuba. So excited for you and your husband!

  • Am so sorry that you lost your son, and your mum, I just cannot imagine how difficult that must be.
Sometimes life does seem so very unfair. I truly hope that your husband continues to enjoy good health x

  • Hi Daisy,

Thank you for your kind words. Fingers crossed for us all for good health and better days.
