Travel insurance after cancer

Hi, my son has had throat and neck cancer, a pet ct scan showed he is now cancer free. Me and my husband would like to take him and our granddaughter on holiday in March, Covid-19 rules permitting. He has been quoted £1200 for travel insurance. I would be so grateful if anyone could recommend a reliable, reasonable insurance company.

Thank you so much.

  • All Clear travel insurance worked out best value for me..

  • Thank you, I think he has looked at them online, maybe a phone call is in order?

  • Hi Peakay,

I am using Staysure. I feel it's reasonable with comprehensive cover. None of it is cheap once you have suffered a serious illness but I felt Staysure was the best value.
    Good luck!!
    Kebbs.

  • Hi Kebbs,

Thanks for your help, I'll tell him to try them. Did you call them or do it all online?

  • Hi, I had a similar situation with trying to find a reasonably priced travel insurance, the difference was I was going to America and mid chemo, so mine ended up costing me almost the price of the holiday! I used Saga in the end, who were the cheapest of the lot. I think they base the prices on how long ago he was having treatment and of course where you are going. Good luck

  • Hi, Shazzlebert, thanks so much for your reply. My husband is on a lot of heart medication after a heart attack and cardiac arrest, he is more likely to need emergency treatment than my son, but the insurance has never been nearly as much as the quotes he's been getting. He'll try Saga if they'll accept him, he's 43, I thought they were for the over 50s, but we'll have a look at them.

I hope you enjoyed your holiday, and you're ok now.

  • I did it all online but it's very easy. Questions about each condition but really easy to follow!! An excellent site!!

For me it worked out cheapest to get a worldwide insurance but they do just cover Europe. Also annual insurances or a one off trip. I found Staysure to be more reasonable than many others. I guess it comes down to individual circumstances but I hope you find what you are looking for.
    Go well, Kebbs.

  • Ah yes, I am over 50, although at the time I don't think I realised that they were for over 50's, I was just thankful for finding the cheapest quote (although still, as I say, the price of my holiday!)

I made it all the way to America, despite being quite poorly at the time, but I still had an amazing time, and managed to stay out of hospital and not require any medical treatment! Thank you for asking

I hope you sort your insurance out and it doesn't break the bank, and you also have a lovely holiday (much deserved I would imagine!) x

  • Hi Peakay

In my own experience, a phone call can be much more useful as sometimes the online questions can be too inflexible. My own insurance is through my partner’s bank account and they have been brilliant. We phone them before every trip just to update them on our latest position and have had no issues. And we have had to claim once as we were due to travel on the day I got my first diagnosis. We were paid out with no hassle at all. I do hope you can find something reasonable. x

  • Stay sure has just told him £400 if he's not taking strong painkillers at the time of travel, which he's confident he won't be, that seems more reasonable. Thanks Shazzlebert, and everyone for your help.
