mastectomy with immediate reconstruction

Hi am 3 and a half weeks post op I had a preventative nipple sparing mastectomy on my left breast (my surgeon would only do one at a time) I had my drains out nerly 2 weeks ago now and had my Pico dressing off a week, they replaced that with a breathable island dressing surgeon said he looked like it was all going well! Fast forward a few days I noticed my dressing was a little grubby so I had a few the nurse had given me to change if it got dirty, I removed my dressing and a whole lot of yellow fluid came gushing out of what looked like a graze near my nipple. ( am never normally bothered about that Kida stuff but I nerly faited from the amount of fluid) I've been given a weeks worth of antibiotics to take and will be going back to see my surgeon Tuesday just asking if anyone else has had this problem when the Pico dressing has been removed feel like it was the only thing helping me heal and now feel I've took 20 steps back and scared am going to loose my implant help and advice would be appreciated!

  • I'm sorry about the yellow fluid that came out of your nipple Sflaye but I can see in your post that you're seeing the surgeon today and I hope they're able to put your mind at ease.

If you're still concerned or have anything playing on your mind that you may have forgotten to ask or discuss with your surgeon, then do give our cancer nurses a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and will do all they can to help.

Hopefully some of our members who have contended with a similar issue during their recovery will share their experiences and advice with you soon but in the meantime we hope you're o.k and wish you all the best as you move forwards on your journey.
