Immunotherapy liver cancer

Hi. My Dad has liver cancer with spread to lungs. He's getting weak and tired and is waiting to start immunotherapy; the only treatment option for him.

I'd be so grateful if anyone in a similar situation can tell me anything about their experience.

He's had to have CT scan and endoscopy first - I presume this is so that any progress or slowing of the tumours can be monitored?

He had a letter yesterday calling him for another  appointment with the consultant or their team - presuming this is to arrange a start date for treatment?

Does this sound like a familiar pattern to anyone?

And has anyone had any success with this treatment?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Debs1010, yes my husband has stage 4 lung cancer spread to liver and has been on immunotherapy since March this year, this has completely cleared up the liver mets but the lung cancer is incurable but he has now had this for over four years and his treatment now has been immunotherapy every 3 weeks which takes about an hour and a half which is a lot quicker than chemotherapy was.  So hope this helps a little bit.  Carol

  • Thank you so much for replying Carol. Pleased to hear it's had good results for your husband :)

Dad will be having his once every 3 weeks. I just hope nothing happens to change their mind about starting him on it.

  • They will do a blood test two days before to ensure that his bloods are good enough before going ahead.  Ours has een delayed twice before due to bloods not being good.  Let's hope all goes as planned.  Carol

  • Hi I was just reading your post and we have just had the devastating news of my lovely mum this week having secondary liver cancer from her lung cancer she had earlier this year in feb she had the op for the lung cancer which said it was all clear on the scan but had spread to her liver , she has been given the awful prognosis of 3 to 4 months without treatment which I'm finding so hard to accept as she is fit and well, she had chemo in May after her lung operation to mop up any cells that may have been cancerous but unfortunately some made it to her liver , she has been offered the treatment of chemo and immunotherapy and has decided to take it . They said it will give her 12 months . How can they give these numbers to each individual , I'm so heartbroken, did your husband get offered the chemo aswell as the immunotherapy? I'm so glad his scans are clear and wish you all well xx

  • Hi love. The chances they give are really taken from statistics. At the beginning my husband was given a 7% chance but he then went up to 70% after chemotherapy. This was four years ago so it then spread to his liver and he was offered two years immunotherapy and we now have seven rounds left so another 18 months have been gained due to treatment. We all have to realise that stage 4 is not curable and take each day as a blessing. Message me privately if you want wish. Mums are very dear and please try ans live in the day and not look towards what if. It's hard but you can do it. Best wishes to you and Mum. Carol x

  • Thankyou Carol for your kind words, I wish I could get that day out of my head and the length of time , I'm trying to be strong for my mum and my family and I'm really struggling , I've said I'm putting the numbers to the back of my head but they just keep flooding back,  my mum is fit and well at the moment and I'm praying all the time, it's only been a few days since the oncologist told her so it's still raw I guess, love to you all, how is your husband doing with the immunotherapy? Xxx
