Docetaxel and Phesgo- burning rash and repeated sepsis

Has anyone else experienced a burning rash on hands feet and face with this combo?
rash started on hands then my feet and no it's taking over my face. I kept showing my nurses and doctors for weeks and they didn't know what the rash was now it's aggressively attacking my face they seem to think I'm having a reaction to these two drugs combined. While I wait for the extra antihistamines to kick in to see if they are corrrect I can't help but feel frustrated that I was pointing this out weeks ago before my second dose and nobody listened until it got horrifically worse. Besides that after two doses of this combo I've been kicked into sepsis each time and had to rush to a and e. Staring to feel like my oncology team is playing Russian roulette with my life and I still have two doses of this dreaded combo left? Am I alone in feeling this way?

  • Hello jojoco,

Poor you this sounds awful especially if you ended up in A and E every time with sepsis. I think if you haven't done so already you should alert the oncology team and talk to them before considering taking the remaining two doses. Do mention that each time you have ended up in A and E with sepsis and this severe rash and that you are really scared now.

I hope you manage to talk to someone about this soon and that you will hear from other forum members who have suffered similar side effects before and who understand what you've been through.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Lucie

They are aware but no one from the team is contacting me back.
I've been calling the hotline daily and they keep chasing my oncology team and receiving radio silence.

so frustrating I feel like I'm just being left to suffer with a few piriton.

I honestly don't see how my body can take much more.

    thanks for the response.

  • Poor you Jo that sounds awful as you really need to talk to someone about this. Is there any other number you can ring other than the hotline which would make it easier for you to talk to them directly? For example, the number of your consultant's secretary? I am sure they would understand as you should not be left to suffer in silence with Piriton. If all fails, maybe try getting in touch with your GP who could perhaps ring the hospital on your behalf? You could say you are desperately trying to get through and explain your situation.

Best of luck Jo I hope you get somewhere. All that chasing can't be fun!

  • Hi I have just had first dose of docetaxel  5 days ago..I have developed a rash/scabs all over my head thought it was maybe something to do with the dreaded hairloss.  Feeling very sore again not sure if it's to do with stopping steroids or by taking infiximab injections. X

  • My first dose of doxetaxel I had horrific pains all over my body I was told it was the injections but I'm not so sure. I got prescribed some morphine which was the only thing that stopped the pain.
frustrating isn't it? I really hate these two drugs I've never felt so poorly in my life.
I hope you have an easier time than me. X

  • Hey Jo, I'm on the paclitaxel and phesgo and although it's not exactly the same I was warned of these side effects it sounds like you you are having an allergic reaction to it. A lady that's on the same treatment as me in the hospital had this last week and she was given extra steroids to counteract it. But I'd say it's defo the docetaxol rather then the two together its so common. I hope you get sorted soon.

  • Thanks lizzy I'm so sorry to hear this has happened to someone else but partly comforted that I'm not alone it so freaky when you've no idea what's happening to your own body. I'm so ready to be done with chemo I'm considering not having the last two doses.

    thanks for your kind message

  • They must be able to give you something to relieve your symptoms it's so important so you can complete your treatment xx

  • Hello. I've been searching the forum looking for something like this. I had one session of chemo The beginning of August for bladder cancer. I decided not to have any more treatment I ended up in A & E. 3 weeks ago my skin started to flare up, it burns and gets huge patches of rash /hot red skin. I've had 2 lots of anti histamine off doctors and skin creams but no better. I've really suffered with it today I just couldn't be bothered to call the doctor incase they wanted me to go. At my wits end

  • Ah I'm sorry to hear this. I actually got to see someone today and they have prescribed me oral steroids as well as the antihistamines and the creams so fingers crossed.
maybe that's an option for you?
Don't give up keep going keep telling them you are unwell.
I have a call with my oncologist Wednesday and she's getting read the riot act. I shouldn't have been left for so long without care.
keep fighting. I'll keep you updated on whether the steroids work.
