3mm increase

My husband was diagnosed December 2020 after battling rectal cancer since September 2016. Gleason 3+4 which we were told wouldn't need any treatment just Active Surveillance. His recent MRI scan showed there had been a 3mm increase but one area had disappeared. The doctor said there was no cause for concern and there would be a phone appointment in about a month after MDT. Since the appointment my husband has been extremely anxious and very low in mood.  Does anyone have any thoughts on whether we should be worried.
Unffortunately, because of his previous radiotherapy and surgery his treatment options are very limited should the prostate advance.

  • Hi EllieGreen,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of your situation and I can understand this must be unsettling. I'm sure the doctor would have said so if they were concerned at all, so try to take some reassurance from this. It sounds like there is another appointment coming up so that will of course be an opportunity to talk through any questions or worries.

If you feel you'd like to talk to someone in the meantime, our nurses are available on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
