Post treatment check ups, did you feel you had enough?

Hi, looking for some input.  So my story so far is this

Diagnosed with stage 2  invasive ductal carcinoma with lymph node positive. Had op removed cancer and 2 lymph nodes. Started chemo had 5/6 rounds last one cancelled due to side effects.  Had 19 rounds radiotherapy  and I am now on emexstate  hormonal tablets, also hormonal injections every 4 weeks and bone strengtheners every 6 months.

So what I'm looking for info on is during all this I only ever had my treated breast checked once about two weeks post op ,.thia was before chemo started.  The only other time anyone saw my breast was getting the radiotherapy nurse to look at my breast as my nipple had burnt black and was painfull. Other than that this was all I had done. Last month I went to my bcn as my nipple is still black  3 months later and has a lump under it, but she seems to think it is scar tissue but I don't know could be a cyst as it moved around my nipple from side to bottom and is now back on the side.

How did you all feel your treatment went?

  • Hello Veroni1

I'm sorry to hear that you're still having some problems following your surgery and radiotherapy.

It's good to hear that you've already spoken with your BCN as this is what I would have suggested had you not already done it. Has she suggested an ultrasound or many further investigations of this lump. Do get back in touch with her if you're still feeling worried about it.

I think women's experiences of post-surgery care will probably differ depending on each individual's set of circumstances along with hospital policy on follow-up. Once you've had your surgery if things seem to be healing well then I think most women here don't necessarily have regular or further follow-ups with the surgeon.

If you've any concerns that you'd like to chat through with one of our team of nurses you're most welcome to give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
