Stopping chemo

My hùsband has stage 5 colon cancer that has spread to his liver and has been told it is terminal.

He is having chemo every 2 wks that he goes to chemo suite for then comes home with a barrel on for 2 days he has been told it has stopped it growing for now.

Trouble is he has so many side effects then feels to ill to do anything in between he is in so much pain.he is struggling with making the decission to stop incase he feels no better to start enjoying life again which would have been pointless shortening his life and still feeling terrible.

He gets hand and leg cramps that has him in tears.cant breath so cant walk far.gets brain fog and pains everywhere and legs weak

He feels that treatment is doing what it should but he has no quality of life.

Has anyone stopped treatment and after time felt they have improved in their life and been able to live life again

Just want to get peoples experiences

Thanks

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community C63 although I'm really sorry that your husband is having such a tough time with the side effects of his chemo.

Many of our members will understand the difficulties and complexities involved with making such a decision so I'm sure you'll receive some support and advice from them soon but do try and encourage your husband to talk things through with his medical team (if he hasn't done so already) as they'll be in the best position to help him work through this and decide what to do.

Our team of cancer nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m if he'd like to discuss this with them as well.

    Best wishes to you both,
