Socialising when having chemo. Is it possible?

Hi

I have just been told I need 2 types of Chemo covering an 18 week period, I was told that i will be at greater risk of infection during this time. My question is ... is this from day 1 or is it increasing as I receive more treatment. I have friends and family who want to meet up and I want t know if its safe to do so. I appreciate every ones journey is different so general advice would be greatly apprciated

  • Hi

I've got to have 2 sorts of chemo then radiotherapy starting Friday.

I've read all the info oncology sent me it does say your immune system will be much weaker and that you have to be much more careful.

I still plan to meet family and friends when I'm feeling ok but we all know we have to be careful and more cautious.

  • Hello LH44,

You question is it possible, when really you are asking is it advisable. Its all about risk versus reward, and there is undoubtably a degree of both imvolved within any decision.Having been through chemo,it is most definitely cumalative so l would suggest better to get your meetings done if you choose that route early on and then isolate further on.For me,it was reognition that if l was going to put my body through hell l was not prepared to squander it over what in reality was a small piece of my life totally isolating, and this was pre covid.Happily for me l got through and very much made up for lost time meeting friends and family anxiety free

Good luck with whatever you choose, there is no right or wrong way, just what you are comfortable with,
