Further to : Worried

I posted a message a couple of weeks ago about my 2 year post cancer op check up. (The memory has been absolute rubbish since Chemo so can't find where I should be lol!) Anyway, had my visit to hospital after chest x-ray (was fine) and CT with 'contrast' (not fine). Lovely Doctor and   she listened to me. Said I had an enlarged lymph node, right next to my trachea (windpipe), could be infection or could be a revisit from my unwelcome pal! I've had a really horrendous cold ('flu like with cough and fever). So suggested an Ebus (bronchoscope with biopsy. I had it done (more unpleasant than anything I've experienced),  I think the reason being the 'tube' is a bit fatter than a regular Endoscopr. So it's waiting time again. I was a wreck before I saw the Doctor but totally unworried after finding out my options etc. To anyone who may go through a similar experience my advice would be 'do not panic' (easy for me to say now) the exerts will tell you exactly what happens if you just ask. I asked the questions on ALL the worst case scenarios and was told truthfully. TRUST the experts, they know what they're talking about. After under going Lung cancer surgery (lower right lobe removal and upper wedge) then contracting Pneumonia and Sepsis within 12 hours of a successful operation, temporary tracheaostomy turNing a 5 day stay into almost 4 weeks I now feel I can face pretty much anything.

  • Hi Laraine,

I just wanted to quickly stop by and thank you for sharing your experiences and very sound advice. I'm sure our members will try to take this on board when waiting for their tests and results.

In the meantime, I will have my fingers crossed your results bring good news when they come through.

    All the best,

  • Laraine, I had read your earlier thread and want to thank you for this update.

I had a left upper lobectomy 6 weeks ago for what turned out to be stage 3a nsclc (never-smoker). I'll be seeing an oncologist tomorrow to arrange adjuvant chemo. I should be able to have immunotherapy too.

Like you, I prefer to know the whole story.  Uncertainty is so hard to deal with and it's easy to torture yourself with dire possibilities.  That said, I was hugely disappointed to hear the staging, as I'd been hoping it was just the one tumour and nothing else, but now I know, I can cope with it.

I wish you all the very best and hope your results are good.
