Chemo questions about the side effects of carbo/taxol

I'm on the carbo/taxol chemotherapy every 21 days currently 3 down.
It has been 'manageable'
I lost my hair after the 2nd one, although I have random bits of hair still on my head.
My eyebrows have been thinning a lot, I finally got someone to go ahead with microblading for me, but then she cancelled me today.
How long will my eyebrows last?
My makeup skills are non existent so I can't imagine drawing them on.
Also I seem to have really bad acne after this cycle has anyone had this and what did you use to help. It doesn't hurt but I'm quite active and been going places, even going back to the gym when they are reopen (I'm in Wales) so don't want to be bald, have no eyebrows and acne.
I can deal with 2 of the 3 but not all 3 at once!

  • Hello Giggsy

We've some information on our website about skincare and makeup tips during cancer treatment which you might find helpful. Hopefully, if any of our members have tips to share they will post a reply too.

I'd also suggest having a look at the Maggie's website as they have information and sometimes host courses (including online) that may help. I know there is a Maggie's centre in Cardiff and also one in Swansea but if you're in North Wales then don't hesitate to give the staff at either centre a call as I know they'll do their best to help.

It's also worth having a chat with the chemo nurses about the acne that you've developed. Some treatments can cause acne-like problems and I'm sure that they will be able to give you some advice. There's also some info here on the Macmillan website that may help.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi there,

I had these problems a few months ago when I was on chemo. I used Chelsea beautique eyebrow stencils and powder, quite easy after a few goes! Also I bought a "hair" band from hats4heads, very helpful people, and then put a thin beanie over it. It was cool in the summer, not like a wig! I wore the band so the hair was to the back of my head and lots of people thought I hadn't lost my hair.
Eyelashes almost back, still using eyebrow stencil 6 months after finishing.....but I have real hair! Things do return slowly even my skin is better again. Remind yourself it is only temporary. Take care.

  • Thanks geddingtongirl

Weirdly I'm not that concerned about my hair, I wear a cotton beanie, mainly as I don't want to get sun burnt and It stops me playing with the spots on my head.

My eyebrows thinning was the worst as it makes me look ill.  I've ordered the Chelsea stencil kit thanks for the tip.

I'm glad you have real hair and eyelashes again, I'll never take mine for granted again
