Painful/on-going peeing almost a week after BCG treatment

Hello,
Just found this forum and reading the comments has made me realise I'm not the only sufferer - easy to do in the present climate.
I was diagnosed with early stage bladder cancer and operated on December 2019. Since then I've had 3 flexible cystoscopies, 2 rigid cystoscopies and 15 BCG treatments and found my reaction to each BCG progressively more difficult to endure. Six days after my last BCG I'm still peeing painfully seven or eight times a night and have frequent, overwhelming urges to pee when ever I move. Oh for a good night's sleep!
Has anyone found anything that alleviates the urge or that helps with the pain/soreness on urinating?

I need to say that my bladder cancer treatment by the NHS has been second to none, even in these difficult times.

Just befroe my last three BCG treatments I was given the all clear regarding the cancer, so now all I badly need is some way to get back to a normal 'peeing' regime - so any advice would be most gratefully received !

  • Hi Bosun,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm very glad to hear you've received good and successful treatment.

I would suggest discussing the alleviation of your symptoms with your doctor/specialist when you can to see what they can suggest.

Our nurses are also available if you'd like to talk things through with them, and they may be able to advise. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Ben,

I called one of your nurses and was given some very helpful advice, so thanks for that.

At the same time I had a chat with a nurse in my local NHS Urology  clinic and she has emailed my GP with some suggestions for a change in my prescription drugs, so I guess I will just have to wait and see if the new 'pills' are of any help.
