‘Good ‘ response to treatment

Hello all  I’m looking for info on KADCYLA

I was  diagnosed with stage 2  breast cancer  & L nodes( sept 2020) .

Treatment plan: chemo/ antibodies + lumpectomy + radiotherapy

And Just had surgery 4 weeks ago ( a lumpectomy and three lymph nodes) and oncologist seemed to think  I was having an excellent response - it seemed the tumour had melted away. So was looking positive.

Today was expecting a call to give me the all clear. Instead they said I had a ‘good’ response.

No sign of cancer in the breast or margins - two nodes clear but...one node showed ACTIVE CELLS...so not completely clear after all.

And to my surprise surgeon said I will need chemo again. Will find out more details next week from oncologist. . But believe it will be KADCYLA as was once mentioned way back when - as I have triple positive BC. Feel gutted - hoped I’d  seen the back of chemo forever...

was thinking I was coming out of this tunnel and about to get my life back....and that my family who have been so loving and patient would get the old me back...

so yes... just wondering if any of you have experience of Kadcyla and can tell me how it compares with the taxols -? ( I found chemo really hard) And have just consulted doctor google - and seems that 14 cycles is standard? Is that the norm.

thank you for any advice

wishing you all well in your journey s

  • Hello Beautiful.life

I'm sorry to hear that your recent results weren't as good as had been hoped for. It's understandable that you're feeling upset and anxious at the prospect of more chemo.

We do have some information on our website about Kadcyla. If you use the forum search function to look for the term Kadcyla you'll quite a few posts where it's been mentioned by members. It's worth just noting though that quite a few of those posts are by members who are having this treatment because they have advanced breast cancer rather than early breast cancer.

I wonder if you might find it helpful to have a chat with one of our team of nurses ahead of your oncology appointment next week. It may be that they are able to answer some of your questions and help you think about some of the things that you might want to raise at the appointment. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
