Night sweats with chemo (AVBD)

Hi

I'm hoping someone can help.
Before diagnosis of Hodgkin's lymphoma stage 4B (bulky) I felt fine but had ngiht sweats. My blood work was normal too.
I've been going through chemo and had a negative pet scan a month ago almost - best day ever !

however I've started having drenching ngiht sweats again and they reduced my chemo down to AVD. I'm worried the reduction has caused the disease to come back. Could chemo be causing the night sweats on it's own ? Has anyone else experienced this ?

it's worry after worry and I was diagnosed after giving birth to my first baby I just want to live normally and happily - I am on the road to recovery but this is now making me anxious like I've gone back the way.

thank you to anyone who replies - I appreciate your time !

  • Hi Ash. I have had terrible night sweats - first with radiotherapy and then through chemo, and my doctor said it was a recognised side effect of both. Plus I had a radical hysterectomy so was plunged straight into menopause! But the sweats only started during treatment so I feel those are the culprits. For four months now I have been waking up freezing cold, drenched in sweat and have had to get up, dry off and change my pyjamas - and sleep on the other side of the bed. Really horrible and exhausting. My entire heating system seems to be out of whack, and after sweating and changing, I would get so cold I couldn't warm up for hours.

I can't take HRT so tried Menopace (recommended by Macmillan nurses) but it did nothing for me, so recently bought Black Cohosh with Sage and Red Clover in one pill as all three were suggested to me as possible solutions. One pill per day was recommended and Amazon reviews suggested I may see results after about a month. I decided to see if I could hurry things along by taking two pills a day and - two weeks later - have just woken up after my FOURTH straight night of minimal sweating! I'm not counting any chickens but I'm really hoping this is going to work for me as I'd started to dread going to bed, which is a horrible feeling. I do still get a bit sweaty, but nothing like before, and mostly on my head now, whereas I was waking up with it dripping off my legs and with my pyjamas soaked through! Now managing to sleep much better. Really hope it works for you.

  • Thank you so Much!

I am glad you're doing well. I will give anything a try as I am so sick of it ! It disturbs my sleep and we have enough to be dealing with, side effects I know are part of the course but it's just the lack of sleep due to it makes me feel like I can get caught up in an viscous cycle and I am back tomorrow for more treatment. I've stayed so positive but when I am tired I am getting grumpy ha!

    Thank you! X
