Chemo symptons

Hi

I just wanted to see if anyone else has symptoms from chemo that I am experiencing. I have just done my third session.

Approx 1 hour after chemo I feel awful, not sick but like I can feel the drugs moving round my body. This lasts approx half a day.

Then I'm washed out for about 3 to 4 days and then I get that first symptom again. Only this 3rd time its seemed worse, like it's been coming back on and off for the last 2 days.

The other strange symptom is my hair hurts. I've cut it back to almost a skin head due to malting but when I move my head on a pillow it's like the follicles hurt.

I'm not sure what I'm hoping to achieve sharing this but maybe someone out there is experiencing or has experienced the same.

Thanks

    HI Sparksprilla,

I haven't had chemo myself, but would advise you to let the staff at the chemo centre know how you've been feeling between visits. Sometimes you need a change in anti-nausea medicine, which might help with these symptoms.

Here's hoping that this is a case of: "A problem shared is a problem halved."

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hey, my darlin'.

Do not be afraid to mention ALL of this to your Chemo nurses, they are BRILLIANT at their job and know far more than you could imagine. They will give tips, advice, referrals etc and keep a watchful eye on your progress. At the same time, TELL your Oncologist. Don't think that he'll consider you a moaner, far from it. I was told by ALL the staff that their role is to put an end to anxiety and pain as well as Chemo treatment. Don't be afraid, just chat to them. As much as it really does help in your recovery Chemotherapy is one Godawful treatment, sounds drastic but true. BUT it does work. Sending huge hugs and love your way ️

  • Hi there,

I went through 3 sessions of chemo and found the 3rd the hardest , I think it is accumulative. It seems to effect everybody differently, I had awful mouth ulcers. It is a rotten treatment, such powerful drugs but it is the best we have to make us well .  Phone the oncology nurses, they will help with any side effects and give you all the medicines you need.  Is it breast cancer drugs as you say you are losing your hair? I remember too the feeling of it actually hurting my scalp. I had surgery, chemo and radiotherapy and finished my treatment in July 2020, so quite recently and my hair is now shoulder length!

    Wishing you all the best
