Advanced breast cancer. Lump on knee

I have advanced breast cancer diagnosed five months ago. I have found a hard lump on my knee which wasnt painful to start but is now. I dont like to be thought a paranoid patient. Should I inform my oncologist.

  • Hi

sorry I am no expert but my radiotherapy team said any issue shouldn't be taken lightly .... I would go and see my gp and tell oncologist for sure ! Just to give you peace of mind if nothing else!

  • Thank you Sally.

i phoned the onvpcologist and was put through to the breast care nurse. She says she doubts if it is related to the cancer. She says I can phone my GP but I am loath to do this. I don't have a very good relationship with the practice since I went with excrutiating back pain at the end of 2019 and he just kept telling me it was my age. It took weeks before he would refer me to pay for a private MRI scan which showed I had a cyst on my spine which was causing the pain. I was recommended for an operation but the pandemic has held that up which means that I have barely left the house for 15 months, although the cyst has burst, just left really bad stenosis. I hesitate to go with a painful knee, probably all due to my age. I have also had problems with the receptionist this week when I enquired about my vaccination because I can only have it on two days out of 28 due to targeted therapy treatment which takes me past the twelve week gap between the first and second jab.. Oh dear, I now sound like a real moaner, I am not usually like that

  • Oh no I am so sorry to hear all of that ! You poor thing .... I found it hard not to go out due to lock down let alone 15 months !!!!
I totally get how you dont want to contact them ( not sure I should tell you this but I work in one !!!) but I think you should ...... maybe ask to see a different person to who you saw last time ??
covid clinics tend to be on certain days and it's quite difficult for them to euro around people however !!!!!!! There must be exceptions for people like yourself who are having treatment !
I know it's easy for me to say but try and bite the bullet and call to get that knee seen... I feel you need peace of mind especially with everything else you have going on !!!
don't worry about moaning ...... I think if you have or have had cancer then you can't be too careful !
like I says in previous message .... my radiotherapy team said if you have concerns talk to your gp as they will take you seriously !
moan away ..... best to get it out there ! I am happy to listen !
    good luck

  • Maybe I'll bite the bullet tomorrow and ring the GP. I may strike lucky and get one of the nice receptionist, of which there are some!! Thank you.

  • Keep me posted !! Fingers crossed you get a nice one ! But even if you don't they have a duty of care to you and should be professional and get you an appointment!
    good luck
