  • Hi Sandra,

I had masectomy and lymph node removal in December 2019 so just over a year ago. I found the op and recovery not too bad, the nurses give you a cushion to sleep with underarm and plenty of pain relief if you need it. The scar healed quite quickly with dissolvable stitches. I was soon up and about. It's not nice the thought of it but at least will be over soon.

  • Hi ..I had a mastectomy 3 weeks today and I'm due to go back for full node discetion in 2 weeks due to the sentinel nodes all being cancerous .

I therfore can only comment on how I found the mastectomy.  I have not had any pain only soreness .I took paracetamol straight away and took that regular for 4 days . Unfortunately I developed a seroma which split my wound and leaked a lot for about 2 weeks but that has now calmed down. Not everybody gets this so hopefully you won't.

3 weeks on I am back to doing everything I did before including gardening which I did for the first time today and drove my car round the block for the first time .

I wish you all the best and hope all goes well for you .

I also was diagnosed with lymphoma at the same time as my breast cancer so not sure what the plan is for that yet as following my node removal I will be having radiotherapy and chemotherapy...have they said you will have the same.

    All the best Carol

  • I just get my self all anxious the thought of operations but thank you for letting me know some information about the operation

  • Hi

I hope you're doing ok xxx

how did you find the lymph node removal?

I also have had a double mastectomy but have to go back next week for my nodes to be removed after the sentinel containing cancer.

have you started treatment yet? I'm due to have the same, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

  • Hi KPjc

I'm doing really good thank you .

The lymph node removel was done back in March and all went well. A bit of soreness and tightness as got cording but with regular stretches this can be corrected.

I found this operation far easier to recover from  all though I had to have adrain in this time for 5 days this was because I developed a lot of seroma after the mastectomtomy.

I havbe now had 4 cycles of chemo ...3 FEC and had 1 T last Thursday .

I've sailed through them so far ...no sickness and only slight fatigue the day I have them and then the next day but after that I'm doing everything I need to do and now back working full time from home.

Ive got 2 more Docetaxal cycles then a scan then I start 4 weeks of Radiotherapy.

I wish you well with your operation and take it easy . I'm sure you will be fine .

    Best wishes
