Is dentist care free while on chemo?

Hi I have finally got into a dentist as I have noticed since chemo sore mouth/gums and lost a filling , I was on the understanding that dentist was free now with the excemption certificate?

  • I hope this information I've found on the Macmillan website will help clear things up Blm, but if you'd like to have a quick chat with one of our cancer nurses about this they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their input soon as well.

    All the best,

  • Hi,

Just letting you know that when I began my chemo a few months ago I was told not to have any dental treatment at all. As we're in lockdown and getting appointments are almost impossible I didn't question it. Just check with your team beforehand to be on the safe side.

Good luck with the rest of your treatment.

  • Hi

The dentist was really good and the reason I went was the chemo had given me sore mouth and he explained that it gives you something called dry mouth where you don't produce enough saliva and it affects yr mouth/ teeth and gums so he prescribed some toothpaste and a week in it does feel better, I questioned the paying for dental care as the receptionists were having a debate between themselves , I paid and left but would just like to know
