Side effects of immunotherapy

Would like to compare notes on other peoples experience as I spent a week in hospital afterexperiencing  multiple side effects

  • Just wanted to say hello Scousebrain and welcome to Cancer Chat.

Hopefully some of our members will be able to share their experiences, you can also look at the general information on side effects here. It also depends on the type of immunotherapy you're having.

I hope it's of some use to you,

  • Hello

I had my first session on Monday.

it wasnt a pleasant experience and very daunting going into a chemo suite.

so far the side effects I have experienced haven't been to awful fatigue feeling very cold , prickly skin and mouth hurts tingling/ sore, loss of appetite.

I have feeling this might just be the beginning.

    Hows your experience so far?

  • The night before my resumption of 3rd cycle of immunotherapy ,a bit apprehensive after side effects I had after my 2nd cycle in December , pretty drastic ,spent a week in hospital not my cancer hospital ,which was not a good experience ,poor care, bad communication  missing diagnosis wrong medication ,need I go on ,eventually got there ,after scans ultra sounds endoscopy x rays ,result ,pneumonitis ,myocarditis hyperthyroiditis, colitis dermatitis and worst of all high  liver enzyme levels in my blood basically  breathless palpitations  weakness fatigue rashes itchiness weight loss ,short fuse ,fortunately all have been resolved thru the brilliant care of CCCL ,constant communication and swift action to control side effects with steroids ,proper care ,ready to go again they really instill confidence in you ,and lucky to be under their care

so onwards and upwards (reference to my love of hiking and climbing and getting back on those hills)

Forgot to mention  infusion treatment medication was Nivolumab and Ipilimumab takes about 2 hours

  • 2 weeks  after my 4th cycle of double dose immunotherapy and a phone consultation with the consultant oncologist ,only minor side effects ,few spots rash causing itchiness ,feeling a bit lethargic and lack of energy ,not bad considering my previous experience ,going onto single monthly  dose after much deliberation but it now seems to be a good decision to continue treatment after 2nd cycle ,my blood counts all returned good ,will wait now for ct scan in April and hopefully a good result after a difficult time ,
POSITIVITY  is the key word of the day ,but you will find it is a series of ups and downs .

unfortunately I had 5 days of  bad side effects from the Pfizer vaccine and could not tell if it was the treatment or the vaccine causing it just to complicate things ,getting there now .

    stay safe

  • Unfortunately immunotherapy didn't agree with me. I ended up needing 9 blood transfusions and got infection after infection. Only had 2 doses but on the plus side my kidney tumour shrunk 30 % despite my body rejecting it. I now take chemo tablets, targeted therapy but not as effective it seems as immunotherapy.
