Partial neupheractomy

Hi I had a partial neuphretomy back in Feb 2020

on my kidney

i have put up

with constant pain for months I told my gp who prescribed me with gabapentin and amatriptine I’m told these are for nerve pain but these are not working despite being told to increase the gabapentin to the top dose I’m still feeling numb and a lot of discomfort plus I’ve noticed traces of blood in my urine having spoke to the surgeon who performed the surgery and three ct scans and two ultra sound scans I’m still non of the wiser this is worrying me as I’m thinking the tumour may have returned I was told by the surgeon after he looked at the ct scan and he told me that I’m still badly bruised and some fluid is present around the area I’m currently awaiting to go back to hospital to have s drain inserted but would this stop the numbness and pain

thank you in advance

  • Hello Craig1965 and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

Poor you it sounds like you have had to put up with a lot of pain for months on end. I am sorry to hear your medication has not been working. You've done the right thing in talking to your surgeon about this and if you feel you are not getting anywhere it might be a good idea to try and get a second opinion. You can find out how to do that on this page

I am not sure whether having a drain inserted would stop the numbness and pain as I am not myself a medical expert but I hope that they can tell you more at the hospital about what this would entail. If you want to talk to one of our cancer nurses, feel free to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope you find out more about all this soon and that you will hear from other members of the forum who have found themselves in a similar situation.

    Best wishes,
