Stopping Zoladex injections

I have been having 12 weekly injections for 36 months and my PSA is 0.05 (insignificant). My oncologist is suggesting stopping the treatment in July which is the 3 year anniversary of the radiation treatment finishing.

I'm sure my consultant knows best but my logic suggests that without the treatment my testosterone levels will rise thus feeding the cancer cells. I am happy to stop Zoladex as, although it has worked I'd prefer not to have the side effects.

Any views?

  • I had prostate cancer - Gleason 4+5 - a few years ago and it was treated by RT and Zoladex. I had the last Zolly implant 3 years ago. Since then I have suffered what is to me massive muscle loss. It feels as though I am wearing a suit of heavy armour together with deep-sea diver's boots. I do 15-20 mins Pilates a day and a walk. I can walk a mile but have to rest (30 secs to a min) every few hundred yards. My strength doesn't seem to be changing much one way or the other. Anybody had a similar experience? What is a likely prognosis? The oncologist did say "the hormones will always win" when I said right at the beginning that I would have to work hard to counteract the side effects of the hormone treatment!

    Any thoughts/experience?
