Radiotherapy advice

Hi, this is my first post on here although I do read lots of the chats !

I was diagnosed with multifocal HER2 positive breast cancer in June .
I have completed 6 months of chemotherapy followed by  a mastectomy,  reconstruction and full lymph node clearance in the middle of December.
My results of the chemotherapy were good,  I had two lymph nodes showing cancer and there was a complete response to chemotherapy so I'm now lymph node clear .
I am now fitted with an expander and I am opting for implants .
It would be good hear if anyone has had or is in a similar situation to myself and if they have gone on to receive radiotherapy.  I have read some pro's and con's and I know it's a bit of a grey area in my situation . I do have a chat arranged on the 20th of this month with an expert but I would love to hear from anyone on here , I am 50 years old .

  • Hello, I'm not exactly like you but I have had Her 2 positive breasr cancer stage 3, mastectomy and complete removal of lymph nodes all but 3 were infected, chemotherapy and Radiotherapy. I didn't have reconstruction, I thought about it many times never took the initial plunge, I wish I had, I was too afraid! I never feel complete, I know the most important thing is that I'm lucky enough to still be here and be with my family and grand children.

  • Thank you for your reply .  How did you find radiotherapy? Did you get any problems with lymphoma? I've got a long way to go regarding my reconstruction and I understand any doubts you must have had, like you say it's the most important thing to be here for your family!

  • Hi. I am currently undergoing radiotherapy for IDC. I had a wide local excision and also had 2 lymph nodes removed ,one being positive. Had 5 rounds of chemo was supposed to be six but took all kinds of side effects that the last one was cancelled.  Radiotherapy is going well. On round 8 tomorrow.  All I can say is that so far the only side effects I'm having is my nipple and breast is very sore and afterwards I get a headache but that can be stress related. Still early days as I'm having 20 rounds.  Hope I've been able to ease ur mind a bit. X  be strong and take care.x
