Obtaining durvalumab (MEDI4736) on the NHS

I was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus in July 2019. I underwent six cycles of chemotherapy and after that 12 cycles of the above drug on the Platform Trial. The effect was to reduce nodal growth to nil and the size of the main cancer. My surgery which was planned as a result has been postponed because of lack of specialist beds after the operation. I would like to know if I could obtain the drug through the NHS to continue treatment until I can have surgery.

  • Hello Scrivener

I'm sorry to hear that your surgery has been postponed. I can understand that you may be feeling anxious and concerned by this and that you're looking to explore all options in the meantime.

I'm afraid that I don't know the answer to your question. The best person to speak to would be your Consultant who would have more knowledge about possible options.

You could also give our team of nurses a call as they may have some advice and information that you find useful ahead of speaking to your Consultant. If you'd like to talk to them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
