Effects of chemotherapy for bowel cancer spread

Hello,

My mum has recently been taken to hospital after her first chemo session on Monday. She has stage 4 advanced bowel cancer which has spread to the lining close to small intestine and liver.
she had chemo last year and coped well- the tumours shrank. Unfortunately she broke her back this summer abs was bed ridden for 4 months. She therefore could'nt have 'maintained Chemo'.

This round of chemo has hit hard and she can't keep fluids or food down. She's currently been taken to hospital on a drip.

I'm so worried about her as we can't visit.

has anyone else experienced this?

she's just had an ultrasound to check her liver as she is vomiting bile.

hope everyone is ok

thanks

  • Hello Kate

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis and that her treatment earlier this week has resulted in her being admitted to hospital.

Hopefully by now you have had some news from the hospital about her condition and I do hope that they have been able to make her more comfortable.

I know from previous posts her on the forum that nausea and vomiting are not uncommon side effects and we have had members previously who have been hospitalised after a chemo treatment. Hopefully if your Mum is having more treatment the team will be able to adjust her dose or medication to try and minimise any future side effects.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to give them a call. They are available Monday to Wednesday next week from 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
