Feel rubbish after first radiotherapy

Hi, I had my first radiotherapy session this afternoon. Initially I felt fine. I took the dog out for a walk and when I came back my breasts starting really aching (just like when I had the lumpectomy's). I should point out that in left breast I had a small tumour removed and the right had pre cancerous cells removed. I am also getting the painful nerve twinges like when I had just had surgery. I wasn't expecting to get any side effects so soon. Has anyone else felt so bad after their first session. To make it worse I need to go back tomorrow for 8.30 appointment for second session.

  • Hi JoannieC

I also had reaction on skin, nausea/vomiting and pain after first session. Every single person reacts differently and I think the tug of the lead is going to hurt you when walking the dog. Give yourself time to go thru the radiation treatment and recover. The nerves are trying to fuse together and with radiation on top of it - it's a tough road and will take longer to fuse. Take it one day at a time and listen to your body. Be fair on yourself and realise you aren't in the norm and every stage of this whole process is different for everyone. Take it easy, listen to your body and take it easy.  You got this!
