Dreading 2nd EC chemo

Due my 2nd cycle of chemo on Christmas Eve of all days. Took me 11 days roughly to feel 'normal' after the first one, constant nausea, weird smells and an infection. I've heard a lot of people say the second one is the worst.. is this true? I feel myself getting more anxious the closer it looms! I'm on EC and was told I would most likely lose my hair as Epirubicin is apparently the hair killer, haven't lost any yet but don't want to get my hopes up incase I wake up one day and it's on my pillow. Has anyone else had EC?

  • Hi Lou

this is my first post here. I'm just about to have my 12th chemo this Friday. I was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer in July and have blasted it since with chemo. So much that it's shrunk from 6cm to 3cm in what was the first two months. I know exactly how you're feeling. My first chemo was hell. I was in hospital for 14 days afterwards because of how bad the side effects were. Second one was nowhere near as bad for me. I know it's different for everyone but it does get easier. I have 5 left now and next scan in feb. Try keep your spirit up. It's like a nightmare but we can get through it

  • Hi James, I'm so sorry to hear of your diagnosis! It must have been a lot to get your head around. I'm glad the tumour has shrunk, it makes the chemo worth it! Can't believe your about to have your 12th, I'm having 6 cycles as it stands and thought that was a lot ‍♀️ I hope your scan in February is good news, I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for you!

  • Hiya, I had 4 EC (Red Devil) followed by 4 docetaxol. Both had side effects, mainly nausea, heartburn, constipation and a 5 day wipe out on the EC. I would start to feel better from around day 10. I used the coldcap on my first EC but it didn’t work and it started falling out around day 18. The 3rd EC was the worst for me. My breast tumour was 4.5cm and had touched a lymph node, however after all 8 chemos I had had a complete pathological response. Chemo is horrible but it’s worth it if it kills the cancer so hang on in there. I found great comfort in watching some other people’s YouTube videos on how they coped through chemo I can recommend you look up Dee Doherty and Courtney Keeks.

also This blog is a good read: girlvscancer.co.uk/.../

My last chemo was 27th March 2020.

    good luck

  • Hey fishnchips, I can see why it has the nickname Red Devil! I have 6 EC altogether, I'm glad I'm not the only one suffering from crazy heartburn! The amount of gaviscon and rennees I have gone through it's like I'm an addict  I'm so glad to hear the chemo was worth it for you! I wasn't offered the cold cap as my onc said they aren't doing it at the moment because of COVID, I think I would have turned it down anyway. I'm on day 14 now and I dont know if I've lost any or if I'm just being paranoid! I will deffo give the blog a look, I find reading other people's stories is what is keeping me going.
