Cancer of the oesophagus - liquid diet

Hi,

I'm looking after a friend who has recently been diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus.

I have been busy making lots of nutritious soups etc using a nutribullet. Lots of fortified milk ensures it is runny enough for him to be able to swallow.

The problem is that he doesn't take much before he feels very bloated and is unable to take more in.

Anyone have similar problems or have any suggestions?

Thanks, Hanne

  • Hello Hannelie17,

Welcome to our forum! How nice of you to be making all these nutritious liquid meals for your friend. I am sure he really appreciates it. It's a shame though that he isn't able to take much before he feels really bloated. I hope that you will meet others on the forum who have faced similar issues when preparing liquid meals for a loved one and that they will be along to share their experience with you.

We have information on our website which includes tips to help someone who is on a soft or liquid diet put on weight on this page. I hope this will be helpful to you. Feel free also to give our nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 if you would like to discuss this with them - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope this helps and that your friend manages to eat a little more soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello, so  sad to hear this, but my husband lost his fight back in June, I know they can only eat very small amounts, so maybe just little and often. I couldn't even see my husband due to Covid. But just be there is so comforting.
