Doxetacel Chemotherapy Side effects/ stomach cramps

Hello my mum has recently started chemotherapy, 1st dose was less than a week ago and she has been experiencing severe stomach cramps resulting in vomit/diarrhoea and being unable to eat.
has anyone else experienced these? And are willing to offer some advice.

Thankyou kindly

  • Hi annamarieph

Sorry to hear your Mum is having a tough time

My Mum has also recently had her first dose of docetaxel and experienced these side effects too ..her Chemo help line were able to help with extra medication to help settle things so if you haven't already I would suggest you get In touch with them and tell them what your Mum is experiencing so they can help . Really hope things start to improve soon x

  • Thanks for your response :)

She was given anti sickness tablets and loperamide/Imodium for the diarrhoea, but her biggest problem is the cramping pain that comes alongside it in waves. Not sure if this drug helps with cramps aswell?

I hope your mums symptoms have resolved with their advice x

  • Hopefully immodium will help . Mum also had omeprazole and gavison so may be worth asking about that ?  It's definitely worth keeping the chemo line informed .  Mum had a really rough few days but things have improved a bit and I'm sure they will for your Mum x

  • Hi I had all the sane side effects and it hit me for 2 weeks at a time

speak with nurses or consultant is my best advise as they are able to help with anti sickness, stringer pain relief etc if needed

encourage mum to listen to her body and sleep n rest when needed

my consultant ended up reducing my dose slightly as took its toll but you must tell then how she is feeling

hope this helps a little and sending you both a hug

    you can do this x

  • Thankyou so much. Although it's a terrible thing, it's nice for her to read this and know that she's not alone. I hope you are recovering well from this trauma. ️
did you find that the stomach cramps were relieved as long as the vomit/diarrhoea was controlled?

    Thankyou

  • Yes I find the cramps eased with pain relief and once diarrhoea subsided

Hot water bottle helped at times when I was not too hot

Side effects are grim and at times you feel like you can't go on but we do and mum will feel better

I never thought I'd make it through to 7 cycles but I have although I feel horrendous now I know each day gets easier and mum will too
