Targeted drugs and empty stomach

Hi everyone

This might sound like a really dull question but I'm not sure. The pharmacist explained about taking my drugs on an empty stomach with regards so not eating etc. I'm just wondering if that means I can't have anything to drink eg coffee? I've tried looking for info but can't make any sense of it.
