Hemicolectomy - has anyone experience sharp pain after?

Hi...

I had a successful operation in February of this year which involved my appendix, 5" of the bowel being removed and two different types of cancerous tumors being taken away.

Has anyone experienced sharp pain after this similar type of surgery?

  • Hello Jag68

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing some pain since your surgery earlier this year. Have you spoken to the Consultant or GP about this? If no then do let them know so that they can arrange to see you if necessary.

It's understandable that you may be feeling anxious about what is causing these pains. Hopefully if we've any members here who have been through a similar situation they'll post to share their experiences with you.
In the meantime, if you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses then you're welcome to give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope things settle for you soon.

    Best wishes,

  • I had similar operation in Jan 2019 , had a full right hemicolectomy, the sharp pains eased after around 2 month but still to this day I get severe pain. Doctor tells me it's all the scaring and nerve damage from the operation ( like pain you have when you've had something amputated but it's not there). Speak to your Gp or consultant for advice and pain relief if needed.

  • Many thanks for your response, this is greatly appreciated.

    Take care and best wishes.
