Muscle pain after lobectomy

I had the lower lobe of my right lung removed because of cancer, I am not in any pain but I am in discomfort at times under my ribs, I get this sensation of something going in to spasm and I have to wait a while for it to go back and it can take my breath away, why is this ?

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat forum Harrison although I'm sorry about the discomfort you're currently experiencing.

Unfortunately I can't answer this question but if you're worried do be sure to let your medical team know so you can get their thoughts on this.

You can also have a chat with one of our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope this sensation starts to improve soon for you Harrison.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi there - I also have the same as you several times a day where I get the spasm which takes my breath away. I've been trying some diaphragmatic breathing techniques which helped to a degree but the spasms still occurring but probably a little less often. My doctor didn't offer me any help, just said 'oh it's probably your diaphragm' so I had to find a physiotherapist who specialises in breathing techniques. Seems we probably just need to learn to live with this although it can be difficult at times. Good luck
