Mass between bladder and bowel totally scared......

I have a mass between my bladder and bowel and my god its playing up with rectal bleeding back aches.  My GP has supplied me with some pills to stop the bleeding when things get really bad.

The mass is localised, I went to hospital yesterday and was offered radiotherapy which hopefully will shrivel it up.  It has grown really quickly since June and now needs some intervention.  The radiotherapy is palitive, meaning it will shrivel it up and wont get rid of it.  So more chemo has been mentioned which I think I am not alone in saying, I hate

I did ask about a surgical option but have been ignored so have gone out to a private hospital nearby for a second opinion.  I dont think that can hurt.....

has anyone had a similar problem...would love to know.  I am really worried cant sleep and had a couple of brandies last night......which of course doesnt help but  live on my own so only my dog to talk to although I do have good friends around me.

  • Hello JEH101jeh,

Welcome to our forum! You've done well to ask for a second opinion if you feel you have been ignored when you asked for the surgical option. It will be interesting to hear what they have to say about this and you're right it can't hurt to double check that surgery is not an option.

I hope that you will hear from some of our members who have dealt with a similar issue in the past. I am sorry to hear you have no one to talk to at the moment, at a time when you probably need it the most. I am glad you have good friends around you though and I hope that you can get in touch with them, perhaps give them a call and have a chat about how you are feeling. It does help to offload and chat to others whether here on this forum or to friends who I am sure will be there for you and listen. Perhaps you could give our cancer nurses a call too if you want to ask them any questions? You can get in touch  with them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and you can talk to them Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope you feel better soon and that you manage to get some sleep! We're all here for you anytime you need to reach out to others who understand what you are going through at the moment.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello JEH10,

Having read your previous post,it comes as no surprise that you are very distressed when you cannot see any end in sight.l well understand the stressful cumalative effects of continued forward progression of this horrid adversary, and the will it ever end questions that plague your mind on a daily basis.

l think you are right in considering a second opinion,if only to settlle any lingering "what if"doubts in the future, that allows you to focus your efforts on the future,as opposed to looking back.

You are not alone in railing against chemotherapy,it can be without question the most brutal friend you will have by your side in the upcoming fight against cancer, and radiotherapy can also demand a lot from you for its assistance. That said, they are the reason you and l can post on this site.

l do not see that a couple of brandies can be such a bad thing in the circumstances,as long as it does not interfere with your ability to remember to let the dog out before you head off for bed.

l did write a response  to you a few hours after your initial post, but like l have done several times l double click and lose it,and l cannot seem to get out of the habit of doing so,l put it down to that chemo fug residual effect!. Hopefully this one will make it through, and your upcoming radiotherapy will ease your physical discomfort,

                                                              my best wishes,

                                                                                  David!

  • Thanks David, at a planning meeting tomorrow giving me lets say the heeby jeebies at the moment.  All I seem to get from the consultants this mass is in a difficult spot, I did say to the last consultant, nothing down there I can do without, bladder or bowel.........if it gets rid of the problem, this one I have been fighting for two years.......I would pay any price to get rid of it.....but lets see what radiotherapy does....I must give it a go......know its not an easy option but it is an option I guess....thanks for your humour ...........yes I make sure the dog is in...........before I pour myself a brandy.......
