  • Hi

snap i have been taking letrazole for awhile now and it has made me exhausted, not that it is nice but i feel a little better knowing that it is not just me, honestly my gp has virtually made me almost believe that it was all in my head.

    Take care

  • thank you for sharing - I think  reading other posts that it is a common side effect

we are obviously in a select club

i am sure we will manage to live with it if it controls our  cancer

  • Hello Plb,

yes I was prescribed Letrozole after radiotherapy for breast cancer in February this year. I was never a fan of taking hormonal meds and consequently this wasn't something I ever truly embraced.

I did start taking it every other day (not recommending that but it's just what I felt I could tolerate)

Amyway my mood started to become low and like you I was starting to get extremely tired. I felt I was changing into someone else and quite frankly I didn't want to. Thought about it long and hard. Talked to an oncologist about it and decided on balance I was losing more than I was gaining by continuing to take Letrozole. So now I don't take it.

Obviously it's a very personal decision. I went for having  the life I had before. I feel well and energetic. Back to swimming and walking and have a thankful heart for all the treatment I have received. I auggestvyou talk to an oncologist about your symptoms. They might well suggest another brand of Letrozole or a different tablet. It's worth researching. The quality  of  our lives is so important!! Good luck!

    Hi plb,

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 11 years. For the first year I took Tamoxifen, but changed to Letrozole when I was diagnosed with another primary in the same breast a year later. I took this for a further 6 years and stopped taking it in July 2017.

I was continually exhausted when taking both of these medications, but have found a great improvement since I stopped. I still tire more easily than I used to, but the fact that I'm still here after 11 years, is testament to the fact that these medicines do work. I was advised to try different brands of Letrozole to try and reduce the side effects.

Do discuss this with your oncologist and I hope that you find something to help.

    Please keep us posted.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi plb,

I had Pure Mucinous Breast Cancer, grade 1, stage 2, HER2 negative. This is a rare form of breast cancer which affects only 1% of people. It is supposed to be a less aggressive type, so we were surprised to find 3 lumps in both breasts within the year.

This type of cancer is not always picked up on mammogram  and my routine mammogram missed it. I found all the lumps myself whilst showering. However, the lumps were all picked up on the mammograms at the breast clinic. I paid privately for a thermography scan, just to confirm these findings, as this was not available on the NHS.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you so much for sharing this infornation -

once again I am so glad that you are now well

i had not heard of this cancer - I know mine which is invasive lobular cancer is also not so common - about 10% I believe

I know that lbs is hard to detect by mammogram and I have been thinking going forward that I should have extra screening in addition to mammogram  as a precaution to catch any further instances early

I had an MRI to check both breasts befor surgery

I had not heard of thermography - I will look at this
