Hi guys
My mum was diagnosed with a small potential lung cancer in January (1.2cm)
With NHS " watch and wait" protocols and COVID scan delays we didn't get a PET scan until June by which point we were given a positive Cancer diagnosis.
It took until September to get the operation sorted by which point the surgeon who has said he would do a lobectomy decided to do a lingulectomy instead.
We hoped that would be it but sadly they have found micro metastatic cells in one or two of the lymph nodes in the centre of her chest ( Station7) they in turn have been removed.
The oncology team have offered Chemotherapy- but as there is nothing to specifically target . They have said it would make her very sick and only has a 1 in 20 chance of being any use at all . So we have declined.
Does anyone know why immunotherapy wasn't offered to kill any lingering cancer cells in her body ?
On a side note I'm very frustrated and angry that NHS PET scan delays have potentially cost my mum her life.
if anyone is wondering why the UK Cure rates are lagging behind the rest of Europe - look no further than this. Even after the PET scan showed a "hot spot" ( 90 per cent cancer possibility) we were asked if we wanted to wait ANOTHER 3 Months to see if it grew at all!
You carry a baby for 9 Months - You shouldnt have to carry a cancer for that time .
My mums cancer staging has jumped from 1 B to what appears to be 3A.
Her 5 year survival rate should have been 80 per cent plus and it's now 1 in 3
