Marking up for breast radiotherapy

Well did anyone else find this experience quite chsllenging

i feel quite emotional tonight after going through this procedure ready for treatment starting next week

i am not sure why it has affected me so much

i think maybe  being at the hospital and seeing so many patients may be part of it

it isn't helpful that you cannot have anyone with you at the hospital  - although this is understandable

  • I think you are probably right about it becoming a reality after the operation

i did feel like a lump of meat on a metal table today!

Also  thank you for your kinds words

it will all be over in just over 2 weeks

    thank you

  • Hi.

im really sorry that you felt like this and am sending a huge virtual hug.   I had same appt on Tuesday but had the total opposite experience.  I think moonpuddle is right about the reality shock.   I've been great last couple of weeks (maybe head in sand syndrome) but suddenly was quite nervous and anxious walking through the hospital doors on Tuesday.  For a little while was a bit confused by my reaction and couldn't understand what had happened.  I was fortunate that all the staff were so kind and so considerate that they put me at ease immediately and before I knew it we were having lots of banter.  You sound like you are at same stage of treatment as myself (I'll be having 15 sessions plus additional 5 boosters (20 total).   My first session is 21st and I can't wait to get started (sooner begins, sooner it finishes ).   What date is your first session? Maybe we can keep in touch and support each other.   I hope your next appt is a little easier xxx

  • Thank you for sharing your experience

Intetesting that you had a bit of a wobble as well at the hospitsl.

I think a bit of banter might have helped me although maybe I could have initiated it!

i am really glad that it went well in the end for you

I start on 16th but only 5 sessions

It would be good to keep in touch

Sending healing and wishing you well

  • Brilliant!

have you got everything ready for next week (soft non wired bras)?  I asked the team at hospital about moisturising and they recommended not changing my regime as suddenly applying new creams (that I don't normally use) might cause a reaction beforehand.  Was told if I need anything or have problems with skin they will advise.  As a "larger breasted" lady I'm expecting some problems as the area will be bigger - but at least I know any "lingerers" will be zapped (ha ha)

i'm a little nervous about the rise of Covid cases at the moment - keeping everything crossed that this doesn't effect treatment.   Consultant told me last week that statistically I was 50% chance of reoccurrence without Radiotherpy and extra boost because of surgery margins!   I desperately don't want Covid to cut anything short.     I feel for all the ladies currently starting the journey with the delays they are facing - I feel lucky to have got this far unscathed by Covid! X

  • I hope all goes well for you

i was advised to use E45 cream - been using it for 2 weeks

    i hope it helps

We are very lucky so far not to be hindered by Covid

    sending healing

  • Just wanted to send you a big hug for today.  Hope everything goes ok (which I'm sure it will) xx

  • That is so kind

thank you - it went well and an altogether much better experience than last weeks mark up session

Everyone was very kind and helpful

    Sending blessings

Ps where are you having your treatment?

  • Awwwww I'm so pleased for you.   Just think only 4 more to go - I'm sure it will fly by!!!  I think you deserve a chill out for rest of day including a lovely glass of wine and chocolate!  Is your next session Monday?

I don't start TIL next Wednesday.  I know we're not allowed to name hospitals but I'm in the north of England.... around the Leeds area ;).   What about yourself?

fingers crossed that the moisturising  has done the trick and no nasty side effects.   You'll have to keep me posted.    Did they do whole breast or partial?

ive got an absolute banging headache today from not sleeping.....   I think it's the anastrozole- not had a good nights sleep for weeks.  Last straw today!  I've just ordered a chill max pillow (from Amazon) for the night sweats ha ha and a cooling eye mask to cope with the bags under eyes.

    xxx

  • I will be thinking of you next Wednesday as you start

I am close to Manchester - I didn't realise we couldn't name hospitals!

Your new pillow sounds a great idea - I might follow suit

     - had some new slippers delivered today from Amazon- comfort first these days

Maybe the sleep deprivation might ease once treatment starts - I am sure our anxiety doesn't help

it could however be to do with taking letrazole

    - let's keep an eye on it over the coming weeks

    keep well

    blessings
