Chemotherapy drugs - has anyone tried Kalix?

hi I've been diagnosed with grade 3 stage 4b Endometrial Cancer but now spread to my omentum and peritoneal. I now have to have a permanent drain put in as I'm losing ascites but I have to decide on another chemo drug called kalix, think that's how you spell it. I just wondered if anyone has tried it

  • Hello anton_pic

I'm wondering if you mean Caelyx which is one of the brands names for this chemotherapy drug as I couldn't find any information with the spelling that you've used.

If this is the drug that you've been offered then we have a few posts from people who have tried this previously. If you type "caelyx" into the forum search function you should get a few posts pop up that you can have a read through.

Hopefully if any of our other members have experience with this drug then they will post a reply to share their experiences.

If you've any questions that you'd like to talk to our nurses about then you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday. I'm sure that they will be happy to offer some advice and support.

    Best wishes,

  • caelyx - doxirubicin, I have a course of this chemo from September to February this year.  I found it ok, it didnt give me alot of side effects but everyone is different, with different tolerances.  It did for a while make the mass I have smaller, and I did have a lovely summer with my levels then in the normal range.  The only real side effect was loss of energy, very tired at night but that was all, I could operate normally in the day, it did knock my blood levels back though but they picked back up within a week or so.

I am not in a normal range now so options are being explored for me, but at least I had a summer free from hospital visits and doctors..........

It doesnt take long to run through, I was in the day unit max..... around 2 hours 30........I also had carboplantin... ..paired up with Caelyx.........

I hope this helps.  Very best wishes

  • Yes sorry I didn't know how to spell it. I'll check it out thanks

  • thank you for your feedback. I really don't have much choice in trying this drug as my 1st 3 cycles didn't even do anything to shrink my tumour. Now I've been told it's advanced hence why the last 2 days I have had zero energy. I have to try anything now but I'm having a permanent tube put in my stomach so that the ascites can be deained frequently

  • Hang in there, things look horrible now I know, take this chemo, its strong but I managed it. The chemo is pink in colour, it had dramatic effects on me and brought my CA125 level down to normal after only 2 treatments.  They call it the "red devil" everyone is different.....but I do hope it works for you - and gives you time for a breather  - and to give your body time to rest.

I have had cancer 3 times in all, the second time like you, my back was really up against the wall - it probably is again.....but talking does help.

Dont hesitate to come back again............I will keep my eye on the chat line.

  • Thank you, today I had a permanent drain put in my abdomen as the cancer is now advanced. So I will go ahead with the chemo

  • Yes do take the chemo, ...........my advice is take each day as it comes, difficult I know.  My very best wishes to you - if you want to talk I am here.......it does take someone who has been through this awful mill, to know and understand.......
