Skull base chondrosarcoma and pregnancy

Hi everyone,

My wife was diagnosed with a low grade skull base chondrosarcoma at the age of 33yrs old nearly 3 years ago. We were fortunate enough to have had a child a year before the diagnosis. She has had partial resection surgery 2 years ago and we have gratefully had a series of scans since that show no growth.

We have been told there is no evidence this tumour is related to pregnancy, however some of her symptoms did appear during her first pregnancy.

Given that we have been told this is a very slow growing tumour and there are still other treatment options in the future (further surgery/proton beam), we are now trying to decided whether we get on with our lives and try for another baby.

Does anyone have any experience with this tumour and pregnancy? Or any similar tumours/situations and considering pregnancy? We would be grateful to hear your thoughts/stories.

Many thanks,

Neil and Hannah

  • Hello nrayz,

It's great to hear that you want to expand your family, but it's important to discuss this with your wife's doctor. They'll be the best to speak to in case there are any risks. We also have a team of nurses available to speak to if you wish. You can call them for free on 0808 800 4040, lines are open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
