Cancer grade 3

Hi,

I have had a mastectomy caried out 8 days ago, as a in situ cancer have been found, after considerable delays caused by this virus situation....

all of us was waiting a 'all clear' results after every encouraging messages as : no worries is an early stage was found and everything will be good. ...

... absolutely surprisingly my pathological results came back with an unusual tipe  of cancer have been detected is grade 3 and I should carry out a PET scan and other scanning after which chimio a second surgery and radiotherapy might not necessarily in this order!!!

.... I am totally down with this results and more with a question such: why they didn't caried out all necessary investigation prior making the plan for my first (now) surgery? How they was not able to detect it after all X-ray, ultrasound, mammogram and biopsy they take it?????

...Does somebody else have been experienced something like this?

is so wrong!!!

please help!

  • Hi Mamasorose

So sorry to read of your experience. I too was initially diagnosed with DCIS but told post-op that I had grade 2 invasive. I asked why this hadn't been found prior as I was waiting months for my operation and if I knew I had invasive I would have insisted on being treated earlier. I was told my breast density was the issue as the techonogy can't always pick up tumours in the breast, therefore, I believe all DCIS cases should be offered a MRI scan.  I guess it comes down to NICE changing their pathways as I still cannot get an MRI when going for my yearly mammogram and have to pay for it privately.
