Earache post radiotherapy

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

5 weeks ago my mam finished a 4 week course of radiotherapy for stage 1 laryngeal cancer.
she has had the usual side effects and has been extremely unwell however thankfully she now seems to be having more good days than bad.
she is complaining of intermittent pain in her right ear, tbis only started post treatment. I was wondering if anybody else on this forum had experience of this?
The ENT team didn't seem to concerned and feel it's likely just a result of the high dose radiation and everything settling down.
many advice/reassurance would be much appareicated

  • Hi I've had a patch on now for nearly 3 days yet pain is still severe

  • I had stage one cancer in my throat five years ago and underwent radiotherapy and two doses of cistaplan chemo. I didn’t suffer many side effects at the time but last Christmas I started to get earache in my left ear which is getting worse by the day and now paracetamol is not really touching the pain. The ENT consultant thinks it’s from the stiffness I am now experiencing in my neck and shoulder. No-one seems to be too concerned. Meanwhile I’m in a lot of pain for most of the time. I do stretching exercises every day, especially for my neck, arms and shoulders. Also my jaw is now starting to stiffen up. I’m hoping this pain in my ear, neck and jaw will subside a bit but no one l have seen at the doctors or hospital seem to know one way or the other.

if you have just finished radiotherapy treatment I would do the recommended exercises daily as soon as you can post-treatment.
