Anastrazole side effects

Having survived masectomy, chemo and radiotherapy. after 7 weeks of finishing treatment, I was looking forward to doing some projects and getting a new puppy! But on Friday I noticed a swelling on my armpit on the left side. The right side was where the tumour and lymph nodes were removed. I saw my GP on Friday and have already an appointment at the Breast Clinic on Wednesday. Very fast - which is ominous. Having been on to Dr Google, the side effects of Anastazole can cause swelling due to blockage of lymph nodes. I have had other side effects too including dry mouth, difficulty sleeping, fatigue and weakness, all the usual.. The other reason for the swelling that I am dreading is secondary cancer in my Lymph nodes. The nodes that were removed from the right side contained cancer in 2 nodes, so it is possible, even after all the treatment it has spread to the Lymph nodes on the other side. I just could not stop crying after finding this swelling, after the stress of treatment to have to go again for more tests, sans and maybe even a Biopsy. But I must just hope and pray that it is the Anastrazole causing this. Anyone else had problems with it?

  • Hiya silver just taught id reply to your post to hopefully ease your fears slighty i had exactly the same thing happen to me i had mastectomy on my left side but its my right side i keep having trouble with i found a swelling in my armpit and my shoulder on my good side had myself convinced that the cancer was back but i was told it could be the side effects of the arimidex or since my mastectomy im lopsided still waiting on reduction and lift and that could be causing the swelling the xtra weight on that side i got an ultrasound nothing showed up at all  i hope everything works out for you let me know how you get on xx

  • Thank you for replying, you understand how I'm feeling! I have appointment next Wed at the breast clinic I thought I was over that for a while. Hopefully it is the Anastrazole, they look like tiny tablets but are a powerful drug.

Fingers crossed! I too feel lopsided and I was going to talk to the Consultant about maybe having a reduction.
I have an appointment to have some pretty bras fitted tomorrow I haven't even had a prothesis yet, just the one they give you after the op.
I will let you know the outcome.
