Can cancer stop piercings from healing?

Hi :) - I have recently been diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, but i have had the lump on my collar bone since November last year. Now, in December I had my nostril done, I have the other side done too, but that was in 2018 and I have never had any issues with healing until the one I had done in December. Is there a possibility that it's not healing well because of my blood? I'm not on treatment yet but it's been 7 months since I had it done and it's still not healed, and i've had the lump for 8.

i'm not sure if this makes sense but I can't find any answers anywhere else haha

  • Hello imean_itiswhatitis,

Oh that is a tricky question, certainly one I haven't encountered before in nearly 10 years on the forum! But I think given your recent diagnosis and the fact that it hasn't yet healed when you had it done in December it would be a good idea to flag this with your GP and ask whether this could be related and whether they know how long it might take to heal or if it needs to be looked at more closely.

So do make an appointment or talk to your doctor over the phone about this. I think they will best be able to advise you on this one! Our nurses may have some helpful suggestions too. So feel free to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

  • Hi !

I knew it would be difficult to find out if it's stopping the healing haha, I have asked my GP and he said there would be a very slight chance of not healing because of the cancer due to me only having symptoms from march, but nose piercings do heal across 6 months so I do think it's been slowed down. I think it'll be best if I take it out though if i'm honest, just in case as it's still at risk of infection once I do start treatment :)

    Thank you for responding !!
