Letrozole

I am new to this so bear with me.

Firstly I feel very lucky with my diagnosis and treatment that it leaves me with some guilt that others are not as fortunate.

I have been following the discussions on Letrozole as an adjunctive treatment for breast cancer and following my diagnosis 8 months ago of stage 2 invasive oestrogen positive breast cancer, 2 ops and radiation, I started Letrozole 4 months ago. Slowly my moods changed, I had overwhelming fatigue and found it difficult to motivate myself. I was in a place that I started to lose myself. Following contact with my open access team I have stopped taking it and cannot believe the difference in 24 hours, I am more energised, my mood has lifted and motivation returned. It was suggested that I google a website called Predict which is an assessment tool for breast cancer survival rates comparing with or without endocrine therapy and for me the percentages were negligible that I have decided a quality of life now is better.

    Hi Maggieham,

Welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear about the trouble that you've been having with Letrozole. You must be delighted to feel so much better so soon after you stopped taking it.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 11 years and had several of the accepted side-effects associated with this medication. I persisted with Tamoxifen for the first year after a lumpectomy. I had a double mastectomy after my second bout and took Letrozole for 6 years. I stopped taking this in July 2017, but am still left with a legacy of some of these problems.

It is a big decision to decide not to take Letrozole any longer. Did your consultant advise any other type of treatment instead of stopping treatment altogether?

I sincerely hope that you continue to feel better and that this remains the right choice for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
