Zoladex Injection

I am coming up to 2 years of taking Zoladex after having radiotherapy for advanced prostrate cancer 2 years ago.

The Zoladex has worked extremely well and my PSA has been at 0.01 rerading for 2 years.

My doctor now wants me to stop taking it and measure my PSA every 6 months instead  which i am not happy about.  I woud prefer to stay on it long term . Any advice from anyone taking it longer term then 2 years and how long for ?

  • Hello Boeing787,

Fantastic news that the Zoladex has worked so well for you and impressive results that your PSA has been so low at 0.01 - it reminds me that our lovely [@woodworm]‍  also mentioned having such a low PSA for a long time after treatment. I am not sure whether he had the same type of treatment but he also had prostate cancer and is a great person to chat to here!

I can understand why after having such fantastic results you might be reluctant to stopping the Zoladex. It might be worth perhaps seeking a second opinion about this just to make sure your doctor's advice is the best one. You can find out more about this on this page. Your doctor or specialist will be in the best position to tell you whether you can stay on it long term or if there is a reason why it is best to stop it now.

Don't hesitate to give our nurses a call too on this free number 0808 800 4040 if you would like to talk things through with them.

I will now let our other members who have had the Zoladex injections come and share their experience with you. If you do a little forum search by typing the keywords 'Zoladex' (you can find our search function on the blue banner at the top), you will be able to find other members of the forum who have had these and choose to respond to the threads which you feel would be relevant to you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I had zolodex for two years and I also had radiotherapy as well. My psa is still very low several years later and I started off by being checked every four months which has now extended to six monthly checks. I can understand your concerns but for me it has worked very well. I was told it would take at least a year before the therapy was cleared from my body

I wish you well and hope your psa stays low like mine which I feel sure it will, Brian
