What were your symptoms of breast cancer?

Hi, I'm very new to all this but I'm driving myself crazy with overthinking.
I've got an appointment at the breast clinic In 10days, I've been referred there by my doctor after attending an appointment with breast achy/pain and discharge (when I massaged my breast to relieve the pain). A swab was taken of the discharge which came back clear of infection. No lump found in breasts. The doctor seemed slightly panicked but I can't find information online which suggests my symptoms could be caused by breast cancer.

Anyway, I'm just wondering how you felt and what symptoms you had before being diagnosed with breast cancer?

Thank you for taking your time to read and hopefully reply :).

Best wishes xx

  • Hi Mummaof2 and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

As many of our ladies who have been through this process will tell you, waiting for the appointment can be tough but you're not alone and I'm sure some of them will let you know about their experiences and symptoms soon.

In the meantime I hope this information on what to expect at your breast clinic appointment will help you whilst you wait.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Mummaof2

I'm sorry to hear you're going through a worrying time. It's difficult not to over think at a time like this but try and set yourself some worry time, maybe allow yourself 20 minutes in the day to think about your current situation and then if you can put it to the back of your mind. It's natural for your mind to wonder back but if you can try to do things that help you distract.

I didn't have any symptoms prior to diagnosis. I actually visited the GP due to having a painful lump in my left breast. i was referred to the hospital and during my first appointment I had an examination, ultra sound scan and mammogram, fortunately it was a cyst which they drained there and then.

Two weeks later I was called back as the mammogram had identified a growth in my right breast, after more tests, scan, mammogram, biopsy and a further 2 weeks waiting for my results - I was diagnosed with double positive grade 2 breast cancer.

I had no pain, no discharge, no dimples, no palpable lump, in fact I had no symptoms at all.

I hope your news is good news.

    Wishing you well xx

  • I found my thickening tissue myself so went to the dr who immediately referred me to the breast clinic immediately following which I went for a mammogram and tissue biopsy. The waiting is the worst bit. Was diagnosed with 2 types of cancer. Sample sent to America for a specialist test. Waiting again for the result. My score was 12 which did not necessitate chemotherapy. Booked in for a lumpectomy January 2019. First follow up mammogram clear. Taking Anastrazole and Adcal D3 as I am post menopausal. Hope this helps and wish you all the best.
