Immunotherapy

Hi everyone

I've recently started immunotherapy for melanoma that has spread to my lungs. How long after treatment do you start to get side effects? I feel fine at the moment but over the lest 2 hours have started to notice I feel more itchy then normal.

hope everyone is doing ok and having a nice Saturday

Thanks

  • my husband had his first session 2 weeks ago and has had no side effects so far just his normal shoulder pain but ive noticed he does get more tired nearer the late afternoon so that will be the fatigue no doubt. when you get any new side effects or changes just call your 24 hour immunotherapy nurses and they can help you x

  • Thank you for your reply

I had my first session on the 30th June so I'm taking it day by day.
    Best wishes x

  • Hi,

It really depends on which drug you are taking and whether you are on the mono or combo. The combo seems to lessen the side effects. Also, some people get hardly any side effects, some get mild ones & some serious ones. Some start with them within a day or two whilst other side effects can take much longer to appear. Itchy skin and a rash is one of the known side effects.

If you are concerned about it then I advise you contact your nurse for reassurance. I've also sent you a friend request so that I can give you a bit more information by private message if you would like it.

Take care & I hope it settles down quickly and the treatment is successful,

    Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient)

  • Thank you for the friend add.
I'm on lpilimumab/Nivolumab treatment every 3 weeks and then I go to 4 weeks after 4 cycles.
The itching is not that bad but I do suffer with dry skin anyway and I don't have a rash. I will keep an eye on it and see what happens.

    Thank you again x

  • Hi mellymoo, I had immunotherapy 2 years ago (the combo). Unfortunately I had a toxic reaction to mine after 2 weeks so I can no longer have it (on targeted therapy now). That was my only side effect but if your having any issues, no matter how big or small, always ring your nurse. You never know they may have something to help you with the itching..... don't suffer in silence.

hope your treatment works well for you with great success.

The itching has calmed down again now and I've upped my moisturiser but I am keeping an eye on it.

    Hope your doing ok

    best wishes xx
