pallative care

My sister has stage 4 colon cancer they said it was treatable . She had a course of folfox then got put on chemo tablets . They have not worked and she's now back on more chemo . They still say it's treatable but she's in a lot of pain . Today she got a call from a palliative care nurse and thinks it's the end and is very upset . I'm sure it's because she's very down and in pain . Any one experienced this .

    Hi Carthewajc,

I am so sorry to hear about your sister. Being in pain constantly is enough to depress anyone. Pain can be controlled though and, it sounds as if she needs a stronger dose of medication.

I can understand her upset at having a palliative care nurse assigned to her, but she is the person who can monitor her medication and ensure that she is on top of her pain with the right dosage. I had a very similar experience with my mum and, know just how upset she was when the hospice nurses visited her.I do hope that you can get on top of her pain and, that she eventually comes to realise what a help it is to have a palliative care nurse to turn to any time she needs her.

Do please keep in touch and let us know how she gets on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
