Radiotherapy

Well, after a few phone calls to the Hospital I finally had a meet with a senior Radiotherapy nurse. She dressed my chest with Polymem dressing from my back right around over the red and sore skin and gave me advice about how to manage the recovery. I wasn't managing very well at home the dressings kept slipping and the tape to keep it in place was on sore skin. The nurse told me that they are only allowed to do telephone consultations but in my case I needed to see her. so I'm more comfortable now and having reached the peak my skin should start settling down. The COVID-19 has made things more difficult for us cancer patients but if you really need help, persevere as there are caring people in the NHS to help.

  • Delighted you got some help Silver and feel more comfortable now.

Yes you are right. There ARE very caring people in the NHS .... I know it's not the time to complain but... I strongly believe that people who have had cancer treatment did not ought to need to 'persevere'. You have been through enough and some people don't have any staying power left.

I am probably in the minority but I do feel the NHS HAS been overwhelmed. There are still virtually no clinics happening. It's a hard slog to make it through. The NHS IS fabulous but with regard to serious illness's such as cancer checks and treatment /transplants etc. it's been sadly wanting over the past 3 months. People are truly suffering. Not just physically but emotionally as well.

Yes I guess I am complaining on a 'sacred' patch here but cancer isn't an illness that can ''wait' and be dealt with by a telephone call.

Take care out there. It's a rocky road.

  • Yes, that's true. The Radiographer nurse explained that they have to abide by Government rules and are sending patients home with some dressings. Instead of giving hands on advice they have to do a telephone consultation.. The Covid-19 has caused this. I believe they are doing their best and unfortunately cancer sufferers are caught in the middle of this.

But we will stoically carry on, I was dismayed to hear that people will be suing the NHS for delayed treatment.

    Silver

  • Yes I agree Silver that suing would be going too far (for me too)

but I honestly feel the powers that be have let the NHS down. I cannot imagine how awful it's been for those diagnosed since March and those waiting for treatment to begin, or perhaps even worse, had their treatment stopped over these past 12 weeks. It's not acceptable in a rich nation such as this.

Won't even start on dentistry!!! Just take your teeth out??!! Barbarism!!!

Anyway enjoy this weather!! It's going to be a scorching week!!
